Westgate Siege Reportedly Over As President Kenyatta Announces Defeat Of Attackers In Nairobi Mall (#kenya #nairobi #westgate)

AFP reports that Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta has
announced the end of the siege on Westgate mall in Nairobi:
According to the Associated Press, three floors of the building
collapsed during the standoff, bringing the death count to at least
72, with many more still trapped inside.
AFP reports that the death toll includes 61 civilians, six security
officers, and five attackers. Kenyatta said he expects the casualty
figures to rise, warning that the "losses are immense," the BBC
At this time, he added, there are 11 gunmen in custody. According
to AFP, Kenyatta cannot confirm reports that American and
British nationals are among the attackers, noting that forensics
experts are working to establish their nationalities. "These
cowards will meet justice," Kenyatta avowed.
The Kenyan leader also praised his citizens for their response to
the brutal attack, which has gripped the nation since Saturday. "I
am humbled and thank you all for your patience in the anxious
moments where we waited for this nightmare to end," he said via
AFP. "There is literally no limit to your patriotic sacrifice."
Earlier, Kenyatta declared three days of national mourning to
begin on Wednesday.
